Stillphones was developed after years of encountering rental headphones that weren’t designed for high-quality listening or artistic presentation. As an independent composer and sound designer with over 20 years of experience and a Master’s in Acoustic Physics from the University of Sydney, James Brown built this system to meet the standards of his own creative work.

A durational performance by Māori-Australian dancer and choreographer Victoria Hunt. 60 headphone pairs transmitted live vocal audio and a streamed electronic score simultaneously.

A sound-based durational performance in which 50 pairs of headphones were worn by both performers and audience, dissolving the boundary between the two.

Tree Listening
Enlighten Festival · Canberra
Biometric sensors placed on trees generated music in real time. Audiences reclined on deckchairs, listening to the sonic life of the tree through 15 headphone pairs.

How it works
The system
Simply connect your laptop, mixer, phone, or audio device to the FM transmitter using the included cables. Audio streams wirelessly to all headphones within up to 500 metres — no Wi-Fi, no pairing, no complex configuration.

How much does it cost to hire?+
Pricing depends on quantity, duration, and whether delivery and setup are required. We guarantee to beat any equivalent wireless headphone quote by 10%. Get in touch for a quote.
Can I hire more than 100 headphones?+
Yes. If you need more than 100 we can arrange additional sets with enough lead time.
How many channels can I use simultaneously?+
Up to 7 different channels of simultaneous audio. Each headphone tunes independently — ideal for multi-stream installations and performances.
How long do the batteries last?+
8–10 hours on a single charge. All headphones arrive fully charged. Recharging takes approximately one hour via USB-C.
Where do you deliver?+
We deliver and pick up anywhere in Sydney. Deliveries outside Sydney are available on request. Pickup from the Inner West is also available at a reduced rate.
Do you offer multi-day hire?+
Yes. Multi-day and weekly hire rates are available. Get in touch with your dates for a quote.
Can you provide on-site audio support?+
Yes. Optional on-site audio engineer assistance is available at an hourly rate. James has over 20 years of experience as a composer and sound designer.
